The Eastern Cape Provincial Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) are committed to enhancing the livelihoods of the people of the Eastern Cape. This is done by stimulating job creation and encouraging job retention. The Department continuously seeks to create and enabling environment for business in order to build and grow a vibrant and resilient local economy. The DEDEAT recognises the valuable role played by manufacturers and business in this process and has therefore established a manufacturer’s support centre. This website offers manufacturers and business access to information on a wide range of support programmes. These include raising finance, assistance with accessing markets and improving productivity. The site offers a further service that allows manufacturers to contact and get direct intervention from a provincial intergovernmental team, known as the Response Co-ordinating Committee (RCC). Once the team is contacted they will provide direction on what support government could offer. The Response Co-ordinating Committee (RCC) was established to co-ordinate the provincial government response to support challenges facing local manufacturers and related job losses. The intergovernmental team is made up of representatives of various departments within government and development finance institutions (DFIs). The purpose of the RCC is to assistant manufacturers with unblocking administrative challenges related to manufacturing; provide guidance and insight into what government could offer on support to manufacturers in distress.
